The Fokus Bank Oslo Marathon, taking place this weekend 25-26 September in Oslo, involves a number of charities including Right to Play. The organisation works today in more than 20 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and South America.

/PressPort/ -- Laila Andresen, national head of Right to Play Norway said, “This event shows all those taking part how much children enjoy participating in sporting events. Everyone who’s signed up for Fokus Bank Oslo Marathon has been given the opportunity to make a donation to Right to Play, which a great many of them have done. These funds represent an important contribution, giving even more children and young people the opportunity to play and participate in sports in our project countries.”

First staged in 1981, Fokus Bank Oslo Marathon has become Norway’s largest street marathon. The event now offers a full marathon, a half marathon, 10 kilometres and three kilometres. Fokus Bank (http://www.fokus.no), a branch of Danske Bank, is working to continue developing the event in collaboration with the Vidar Sports Club.

“The goal is to create a top-class European marathon event which also serves as a popular festival in Oslo. We have participants from all over Norway as well as from 71 countries worldwide. So this represents an excellent way to market Oslo as well,” commented Nils-Jostein Helland, chair of Vidar Sports Club.

Vidar Sports Club, expects close to 16,000 people from 71 different nations to run. Visit http://en.oslomaraton.no/ for further information about Fokus Bank Oslo Marathon.
